Lust : Julia Rothman
This is the start of a sometimes series of gift ideas as you all start to peel off the days on your advent calendars.
Some of you may know Julia Rothman for her wallpaper designs but thankfully she also has more portable illustrations. I particularly love this travel journal - to me it evokes a sort of mythical Victorian past where brave ladies in enormous skirts travelled the world teaching crochet to crocodiles.

Threadless Sale
A little tip for those of you looking for some stress-free internet-based Christmas shopping.
Threadless is an online design community where members submit t-shirt designs to a competition every week. The highest scoring designs are printed and sold on the site. The other half is a big fan.
They have a sale on this week, with all t-shirts $9 tomorrow. Yeahy!

Covet - Blanca Gómez
Raindrops keep falling on my head but I wouldn't mind if they were as pretty as these and if I knew I was going to get some balloons afterwards.
These cheery prints are by Spanish illustrator Bianca Gómez and are available as set on Etsy at the moment.

Xixi no Banho
Pee During Shower (english subtitles) from Fernando Sanches on Vimeo.
This adorable animation is part of a Brazilian campaign to encourage people to pee in the shower in order to save water. The website is equally sweet, hand-rendered type heaven!Thursday, November 5, 2009
Display Book Shelf - Daniel Eatock
Our poor Billy bookshelves are sagging because I have ridiculously overloaded them with charity shop impulse buys. New shelves are on the list.
Perhaps to tie in with the sagging theme we should get this one from artist Daniel Eatock
The shelf sags under the weight of its contents in a graceful arc, the top edges of all the books are perfectly flush as a result of a conscious selection of volumes chosen to accommodate (or compensate for) the arc of the sagging shelf.
I think it looks like the shelf is smiling.

Covet - Cox & Cox
If any of you are like me and have a small fascination with fire, or just like oggeling pretty things, then get yourselves over to the Cox and Cox website. I want EVERYTHING.
Sky lanterns are out of stock. For now. You know what page I'll be checking everyday...

Freebies - Charley Harper
Some lovely high res images of Charley Harper screenprints from Cincinnati's Contemporary Arts Center. These are not for commercial use but but make pretty stylish screensavers or could be printed off and framed.

Daily Drop Cap
I've been nerdily drooling over Jessica Hische's Daily Drop Cap project over the last few weeks so I thought I'd share a little typographic joy. Every workday she posts "a new hand-crafted decorative initial cap for your enjoyment and for the beautification of blog posts everywhere."
I have such a design crush on her.

Echino Gecko Lace Fabric
Yellow, white, grey, dots and geckos!
What is there not to love about this fabric?
I am still trying to persuade the other half that we should use yellow in the study. It turns out that he was right to protest about the saplings wallpaper, the colour in the sample (while not hunger inducing) was too dark.
But imagine this as curtains. mmmmmmm
Wish me luck!

Shapemaker
It's times like these that having a child would be a good excuse. Without one I must admit that I love these and would like them for myself.

Skyplanters
It's annual basil death week in my house.
No matter how much love, water, care and affection I lavish on my favourite herb it always dies in October.
Last year's plant had gotten so big it had BARK.
October came, and boom! - it was just twigs in a pot.
This years plant has a few wilted leaves left, but I can feel it rebuking me every morning.
Any basil resurrection tips anyone?

Newmarket Brocante
"Newmarket Brocante" is a brand new new furniture and antique market in the Co-Op Building on Newmarket Square, Dublin 8 that will take place every 3rd Sunday of the month, starting this Sunday.
At this event you will find a selection of second-hand, refurbished, antique and hand-crafted stuff for your house and garden. There will be bargains, freebies, café, good wholesome food and chilled out tunes all under the one roof.
Sounds good to me!

Chair Socks
We have horrible white stickers on the ends of our chair and table legs to protect the white floorboards in the dining room.
This is because I was not clever enough to think of putting socks on my chairs.

Shower heaven
While we were away over the weekend we had to ring reception twice after being outsmarted by sanitary ware and light switches.
It's an uncomfortable feeling when bathroom fittings are more sophisticated than you are...

Colour Challenge
I'm off to a wedding tomorrow so I thought I'd post the Friday quiz a day early.
Has all that looking at paint samples or swatch books improved your colour vision?

Saplings Wallpaper
I've just started working from home so doing up the office is high on my procrastination list.
I love yellow and white at the moment so I nearly fell out my chair when I saw this wallpaper yesterday. Unfortunately my excitement was not shared by the other half.
“That colour makes me think we don’t have enough food”
Not exactly the response I was expecting.
Perhaps a sample will make him feel less hungry?
